Terrible Customer Service

I saw a product on the website and checked to see if it was in stock in my local Lowe's. I didn't have the product number on hand when I was in the store and tried to find it myself. Looked in a couple of departments for 10 minutes without luck. I went to Customer Service Desk and explained my problem (saw product on website, it's in stock but can't find it). Her initial response was "without a product # it's going to be hard to find but maybe I can check website"). I told her exactly where to find it on the site but for some reason she didn't even go to the computer. Simply said try such and such department (even after I told her I already looked throughout the whole store). That was her only solution. I would have appreciated ANY attempt at assistance. I emailed the corporate office with my complaint and was told a Manager was to contact me within 24 hours. After 48 hours he did call but I wasn't home and he said he would call again the following day but didn't. I waited 3 days and contacted corporate again and this time was told my file had been "escalated" and a District Manager would call within one business day. That timeline has expired and I am still waiting. No Core Values at Lowe's and the front line service clearly reflects managerial attitudes! I will stick with my local Home Depot where I have NEVER had a problem.

Her only purpose of going to the corp. office was to get someone fired because they could not tell what she wanted.

You're one of those people who will never get it. It's not easy to locate an item that is being poorly described to you.

Without the proper information it can be very hard to find. I work for a competitor of Lowes and we sell over 100,000 different items. Many being similar but different and in total different parts of the store. I cannot stand when some dumb@***s off the street comes in says I saw it online and that's all the information they have for me.

First of all accessing our online is not always possible and it looks different than the what a normal person would see sitting at home.

Based on the type of item it is getting you to a general location is the best anyone can do. However, you did one other thing WRONG DON'T ASK THE SERVICE DESK THOSE PEOPLE KNOW NOTHING, YOU NEED TO FIND A SALES ASSOCIATE THE PEOPLE WHO ALWAYS DEAL WITH THE ITEMS.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-626369

Exactly, never ask the customer service desk. They are cashiers, that's it.

They can basically point you to the department, but beyond that, they are not much help. Always have the item number. And sometimes, the stock at that store may have not been updated on the internet.

And complaining to corporate, seriously, the DM is probably giggling over this issue. A real issue is receiving the wrong product, not being to find one doesn't apply.

Andrea Ahw

She would not need a computer to use the website if she had her hand held. A product number or UPC is how they would locate the item. She told you the department to look in. Unless you are elderly and can not walk, most people do not need their hands held to shop. At least make the attempt before you ask for help.

And So Sad is right...I work in a pharmacy, and for some reason people think because I wear a green shirt I know where everything in the store is. I know where most everything SHOULD be by using my common sense... Snack cakes? Look where the cookies are. Alcohol? Look where the bandaids are. Tampons...really?

People are becoming too lazy and dependent on store personnel to be their personal shopper. Had a lady tell me I need to come out of the pharmacy and show her where soap was. Uh, no. I do not get paid $15 per hour to walk you around the store. I get paid to count pills.

Very Poor Human Resource practices. As i waited for my first interview,a young man who just came out of the office i was about to go in, went to what i saw as his second interview. The problem was he(2nd interviewer) was grilling him with questions in front of all the rest of us (8 in all).In one big wide open room with 2 lowes employees on computers.I was just there for seasonal work,as i am 59 and retired. But for all the young peolple to put up with this was very unprofessional. Then when i got in there they started asking me all these off the wall ????s.This was Bull----!!!I was in a union fo 30 years .this is why they have unions.I wanted to expressed this to them ,but i just bit my tongue & said i was not interested in working there.Sorry youg people.i have a 19,20,22 year old .Thes people who get these jobs in HR eiher are ---holes or the forgot when they were interviewing for employment>or they come from a silver spoon.

Terrible practice!

Union crybaby? If you ever worked in a Union shop, you would know what he talking about.

Yes his grammar was terrible, but I am sure he was pissed off. Joe Lowes and Heartless, you get what you deserve and Lowes is it!

Guest

Figures, another union crybaby who has no concept of the real world.

Guest

For being 59, your spelling and grammar are horrible! Nothing in your complaint is a coherent argument.

It's not understandable at all. I wouldn't hire you.

Lowe's, worst customer service EVER

I shop online frequently and Lowes.com is by far the worst company I've ever dealt with. I've shopped in store frequently, and after my experience dealing with them online I will NEVER shop at Lowes again, online or in store. I ordered a large clock, it was damaged in transit and sent back to the shipper. They never notified me. I had to call them after a couple days to find out what happened, at which time I was told by the store it was shipped from the clock was damaged, they had no others in inventory, would never have any more, and they were going to refund me. After 3 calls to customer care I learned otherwise, they located another clock in a local store, but they couldn't send it to me without me having to buy it a 2nd time, since it was now coming from another store.. So I paid for the item they damaged twice, had to pick it up myself, and they said they would refund the first. After another 4 days I was still not refunded, I emailed customer care.. No response. I called and was told they refunded it to my discover card. I told them I don't have a discover card, so they had to look into it and get back to me. They did not get back to me. It took another email (not answered) and 3 more phone calls before someone finally was able to tell me the card I purchased it on and claim they have NOW refunded it. I am yet to see that refund, and am not holding my breath. Through all of this, with 2 unanswered emails to customer care, and 6 phone calls (all initiated by me, because they will never call you) not once has anyone felt an apology was necessary.

Lowes customer service was truly customer friendly.

I posted a complaint about my samsung refrigerator in June. It has broken down for various reasons 5 times since I purchased it in 2009. Samsung was absolutely of no help. I did have an extended warranty which I purchased from Lowes at the same time we purchased the HORRIBLE refrigerator. They did send a repairman each time(sometimes it took weeks to get part and complete repair). The last straw was my last breakdown at Thanksgiving. I contacted Lowes customer service and low and behold they were very receptive to my problem and returned my purchase price. As far as future purchases we will be sure to use Lowes because of their product back up.

Doesn't follow company policy regarding sick leave

My husband works at Lowe's in Lawton, OK, and from what I have seen and heard, their management does not follow their own policy! Anytime anyone calls in, they require a doctor's note, though their employee handbook states that you do not have to provide one unless you are gone at least 3 consecutive days!

If you DON'T provide a doctor's not for even 1 absence, you don't get paid for that day, even though you accrue sick leave! Their management is ridiculous. They don't know the bereavement policy, vacation policy, or anything! The manager position is always changing, and this issue has never been solved!

And if you ask for a copy of the policy, they don't know where to look! It's an EEOC complaint waiting to happen!

Lowe's Policy is available to all Lowes associates via Lowes net, actually can be found under HR department in the drop down menu.

Guest

I believe this. It's similar at my Big Box Store.

Their are policy's in place, but management choose to ignore based on if they like you or not. 2 years ago they changed it so you had to have a doctor note and if you didn't call you would receive 5 points. If you obtained 10 points in 90 days you would be fired. We had a guy obtain 10 points and they just ignored.

It totally compromises the system. If one person needs a doctor note everyone does...

This is just one policy of many they don't follow.

Guest

That is the problem with Lowes. Rules vary from store to store.

Nothing concrete, just up in the air. Asking for doctor's note for one employee and not another is discrimi nation.

Andrea Ahw
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-614999

Not exactly.

Andrea Ahw

My husband also works for Lowes, and you can get the policy on the Lowes website. Every policy can be tweaked by the manager.

If the sick leave has been abused, then the manager can require a doctors note. Some do, some don't.

Unethical practice for revenue increase

Lowe's, a large credit card service (working through GE) does not allow customers to pay in advance through any type of recurring payment or automatic payment method. This is done to increase revenue. Lowes does not allow online automatic or even allow one to submit recurring payments through a bank through ebills. As they accept online payments, they have all the information needed and the capability to allow the scheduling of automatic payments but refuse to do so. This increases revenue through late fees and interest also charged on deferred-interest promotional periods. This is disgusting, unethical business practice.

How does this cause you to incur late fees? Pay your bill on time thru the pay or the website.

Don't blame them, blame yourself.

You can pay thru your checking account directly and not have them draft it. If they accept online payments, then pay online!

Guest

I agree with author. I travel so much that I have all my credit cards on auto pay.

I thought I had set up Lowes as well and I incurred a late fee and interest.

I was pissed that you can't set up on autopay. This is a revenue increasing tactic pure and simple ripoff.

Guest

That's ridiculous, stealing from innocent people!

Guest

Lowe's is using Synchrony Bank and so is TJ Max. Somehow TJ Max offers the recurring payment option, but no where to be found on Lowe's.

Even though if you look at their frequently asked questions, it mentions that you can setup recurring payments, but doesn't tell you how. I spent 30 minute looking through the wholes site and it's nowhere to be found.

Disgusting. xp

Guest

I agree. And I think you others are missing the point.

It's common practice now, and as said, they do have the capability. I don't know what the first person is saying that it's bogus, because the don't have the option on the card I have or anyone in my familiy either.

Say 20 years ago one of the largest hardware chains decided not to except MAIL and required it to be hand-delivered to the store to make it more inconvenient and thus get more money. It's the same thing. Yes, when I have everything set up autopay, (about 20 different payments) it's annoying when this one company won't, but the point is the REASONING!!

If you want to make a relative comment on the post why don't you all comment to that - what's the REASON in them doing this that is so valid that makes this poster "bogus"! If anything...

it's AT LEAST poor customer service. And yes, definately their ethics are called in to question as well...

Guest

Complete bogus. They allow all of this when you log into your account online, schedule future payments or enroll in recurring payments!

It's very easy to setup. YOU are trying to do this through a third party, ebills, shouldn't your complaint be with them??

Guest

Lowes doesn't issue the card, GE does. Your agreement is with GE credit, not Lowes.

If you don't like the terms of the credit agreement don't use the card. Pay with another form of credit.

Sara L Xph

So let get this straight, because the credit card company expects YOU to be responsible and pay your bill on time they're unethical?!? Grow up! If you can't manage your credit card accounts responsibly, you shouldn't have them.

Never trust Lowe's installation

We have a garage door opener installed by Lowe's. We found the installation guy put the opener in a different position than our old one and it sounds wired after the installation. But we let the guy go since it works at least. After three weeks, the door could open only half-way since something stuck. So we went back to Lowe's for a repair since the service agreement has 1-year warranty on installation. But we were told they were not responsible for this issue since the opener is still functional (as it can open half-way). The bad installation damaged my garage door and they ask me to fix the door first then they can check the opener. That's the most ridiculing excuse I have ever seen.

Lowe's will not tell you when your order is delayed!

I ordered a matching set of furniture from Lowe's. When the set arrived, one of the items was damaged so we took it back and had them order another one. We were told it would arrive Feb. 25th. After waiting a week and a half past this due date, I called customer service. I was told that our item was back-ordered until mid-APRIL. Lowe's NEVER contacted me to tell me this, I was just left to wonder what the heck was going on! I guess we'll see if it comes in April. I will never give another cent to Lowe's.

Hardwood floor installation..!

Updated by user Jan 10, 2013

the monetary loss is not exact, since the site asked me to fill, I had to fill that no, that is not exact, besides, it is not a loss about this complaint, it is my opportunity to avail a credit and use the money elsewhere, as well a matter of getting discounts of 5% and more.

Original review Jan 10, 2013
I bought the hardwood floor installation service from lowes, both the hardwood material and installation was pretty good, great work. However, the lowes credit or finance side has flaws and terrible issues, it is not just about lowes but the partnership they have with GE money/finance/capital, that provides credit services to lowes. GE is one of the most notorious and worthless financial company ever, I still have two or three different store cards and credit cards from GE, but starting from customer service, finance decisions such as under writing, amount of credit, fees and payments, online billing or online accounts, everything is a night mare to deal with GE. I spent several thousands on my home project (hardwood floor), the clerks and lowes employees advised me to apply for a credit that comes with discount and other perks, besides I do not have to pay a lump some for the project and save the money for something else., When I applied right from the store, the GE people wanted to double check ids everything, that is ok, I had no problem, but after confirming that it was me, the rep processed and approved for a *** $800 credit, what a low life, I am spending close to $20K on my home improvement projects and ready to pay cash, they approved this toilet credit. I had to call the underwriter, and speak, he was useless and same like any other underwriter ***, he did not make any change to the amount. I had to change my mind to pay cash. This is the tragedy of some of the finance companies like GE, particularly GE, why Lowes having business with such companies?, I would not deal with GE even if they pay me, what a third rate company.

Valspar sandstone paint

First off, they didn"t properly mix the shade I wanted so I had to have them adjust it, which turned out worst. They started a new can and when I applied it to my wall , which I may add was a disaster, didn't go on good and then the color was not what I wanted. I had to go out and buy another brand of paint. The sandstone paint is a mess and Lowe's doesn"t care that I'm out of 42.00 dollars. I hope Valspar cares and can reimburse me. I will never use Valspar paint again ! Lowes couldn't even help to explain the procedure of applying this paint...

Sandstone is a textured paint. The colors will vary because of the pitting in the texture.

You should've asked for instructions on applying the paint instead of being a rude ***. You might have gotten the color you wanted :)

Guest

Contact Valspar...they have really been pushing their product even giving away free cans. Let them know that Lowes did not mix the color properly.

They will reimburse you with another can of paint, whether you choose not to purchase their paint again. I wasn't happy with the coverage of the free can of Valspar paint and covered the table I painted with Glidden.

Guest

Why would Valspar be inclined to reimburse you? You have stated that you will never use their paint again.

They have nothing to lose by not helping you.

You obviously don't have experience in applying this paint and should have taken more time to learn before buying it. Sounds like Lowes already replaced the first can you bought...they tried...you just didn't understand what you were buying.

Of course it's going to be messy applying it anybody with a brain should realize this!

Extended warranty issues

I purchased a Whirlpool Washer with a Lowes Advantage 4 year warranty. After about 15 months I started to have problems with the washer. Over the next 3 months I had service appmts approx 6 times finally averdict that they could not figure out what was wrong and I had not reached the repair threshold so now the confusion starts that eventually led to a partial allowance after another 2 and a half months went buy. The problem in the end was the lack of responsiveness of Lowes Corporate and the stalling, I believe hoping I would give up. I would not buy from them again, the aggravation and lack of real conern was just min d boggling and I would buy from a different stor like Bestbuy and try their extended warranty. Lowes is just not worth the aggravation and I have never experienced poorer customer service in my life.

Same thing with my Lowe's Advantage extended warranty. Lowe's pockets the money and you are left on your own.

Lowe's does not care about its customers, they just want your money upfront.

It will hurt them in the long run though when people wise up and do not go back there to purchase appliances.

Learn from our mistakes.....do not buy an extended warranty on any appliance from Lowes ever.

Senna Ssq

Did you ever read the conditions of coverage? The fact of the matter is that Lowe's has no obligation once the machine is in your home.

Our store (yes, I'm a part-time employee) will step in and help for a period for 4-6 weeks by replacing the units and dealing with the return ourselves. It is the manufacturer who holds the responsibility for repair (normally through and outside contractor) after the initial warranty period, the responsibility passes to the extended warranty company.

Calling and complaining to Lowe's will do no good, they are out of the loop, there is nothing at all that they can do.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Senna Ssq

Your wrong! Lowes sells the products and sells the warrantees!

They are 100% responsible for the problems to the products they sell! Because they do no stand behind the warrantees is what makes people mad and upset! That is not customer service!

When you are talking about washers and dryers you are talking about putting people in a huge inconvenience when they break down and they are not usable. You expect the company that sold you the product and the warranty to stand behind it, not go to a corner and hide!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-628429

:eek Try this for a little better understanding of extended warranties. Lets say that you bought a car from Joe Blows auto, Joe does not repair vehicles but can supply you with a CONTRACT with an outside provider, AFTER THE Manufacturer's warranty runs out.

You have had the vehicle for 6 months and a problem arises, or 14 months to get it out of the manufacturer's warranty. You don't call Joe Blow and expect him to repair it. You call the people that you have a CONTRACT with. There is the source of your problem.

If you are dissatisfied with the contractors service or lack of service, the sue them in small claims court for every penny that you can think of. You don't complain about the guy that sold the dog that bit you, you go after the current owner for not taking care of their dog.

Emory Oud

I also bought a maytag washer from Lowe's that is now 18 months old, and also broken. I am under Lowe's Service Advantage extended warranty, so I was under the impression Lowe's would make it right.

I've since had 5 service calls, easily wasted over 10 hours handling appointments and calls, and still no satisfaction. Lowe's keeps sending out service companies that cannot fix it, keep billing them, and yet, I have no working washing machine.

I have asked them to just replace it already, but there seems to be a long process of difficult hoops to jump through to be able to do this. I am really disappointed in Lowe's too

Valspar paint problems

Purchased Valspar paint with primer for the first and last time. I painted a gray/blue over a very pale yellow. The first coat after drying looked as if it had not been painted at all. The thickness of the paint seemed to disappear on the wall. It took over 3 gallons of paint to finish. I previously used Martha Stewart yellow over white and it took not ever 2 coats. Lowes put me in touch will Valspar rep. Many excuses about coverage of different colors and said a primer should have been used first even though this paint had primer. Garbage paint will never use again.

Flooring Products

Installer's very professional and kind. Wood product was acclimated, moisture test was done. Installer proceeded to open boxes and found bowed wood. Changed wood to be installed x 3 times now with wood product being junk!!! When purchasing wood I felt the girl just wanted to sell me the wood. Wood product should be inspected before leaving warehouse (opening at least 3 boxes). Very frustrated! Thank you to the head installer who didn't just go ahead and install the junk product to make his money. Honesty goes a long way. I will not refer Lowe's to anyone. I will refer the installer for side jobs.
