Lowes in Olathe, Kansas - The Single Worst Experience with Carpet

We started this process with Lowe's on February 15th and it's now May 8th and we still have NO carpet and NO understanding of when or if we will get our order. We have been told so many different stories; 1. the measuring person will call to schedule, we had to follow up twice 2. measuring person missed the date and had to reschedule 3. they measured, Lowe's didn't follow-up w/estimate 4. tracked them down, got an estimate, paid for carpet (over 13k) confirmed carpet was available and they said two weeks installer would call to schedule 5. no call in two weeks to schedule so we call and carpet wont be in for another week 6. week goes by no call, we call and it will be the following week 7. we call Lowe's and they said they don't have enough carpet so they need to manufacture more, it will be another two weeks 8. we get a call two weeks later to schedule an installation for three weeks out, because they're busy 9. two weeks later the installer calls to tell us good news, they have an early opening they can be at our house in 90 minutes to install 10. they show-up and don't have enough carpet or padding 11. we spend 24 hours calling Lowe's and the Installer, no one knows what happened to our carpeting, they're still don't know and we still don't have our carpet. Sad

Lowes in Woodstock, Georgia - Dissapointed

I purchased carpet off the roll from my Lowes store in Woodstock Ga and was told I could have it installed within the week. Sure enough we received a call from the installers with a date and time. My husband was waiting at our rental property for three hours when the installers called to say they were waiting on the store to cut the carpet off the roll. My husband told them we would reschedule which I called immediately and was told that they had employees out sick so they were behind and could not give us a date. I called and spoke to the store manager who acted like it was no big deal although he did say he would take care of it. I called days later because I still hadn't heard from the store and spoke to a woman in the flooring department who preceded to tell me that life happens, people do get sick and I shouldn't be so impatient. I explained that this is a rental property which is why I purchased carpet that was already in the store and didn't have to be ordered because I couldn't rent it without the carpet. I told her I am losing money and a store as big as Lowes should not be affected by a couple of employees being sick. We did finally get it installed but never have I experienced such poor customer service from Lowes. I have purchased several appliances and all the carpet in my home from them so I know how it usually operates.

Lowes in Colonie, New York - Excellent service

I went to another home improvement box store and they gave me a deal similar to Lowes. Free installation with purchase and free furniture moving/disposal of old carpet. This measured, but when they sent the estimate they said I'd need to remove the vinyl tiles in 1 room because they may contain asbestos. I had the original tiles carton but they then said there was a height difference (1/8 inch) because of the tile. It took a few hours to remove the tiles then, while shopping at Lowes, I found a better deal at Lowes. The Lowes installer said he would not have required the tile removal and was more professional than the first. When the Lowes carpet arrived the installers were polite, helpful, and did excellent work. Once the lady of the house came home she didn't like the color and said she couldn't live with it. I contacted Lowes because they have a full satisfaction guarantee. They agreed to change the carpet for a different color as long as I paid a disposal fee ($75) and ordered the same brand carpet. Once again the installers were polite and professional on the second visit. I would definitely use Lowes again for carpet. I really like that it's easier to get a veteran's discount at Lowes than the orange store.

No wonder prices are so high. Replacing your carpet because your wife couldn't pick the right color before you purchased it just drives prices up. They make up for the loss they take on jobs like yours by jacking the prices up for everyone.

Lowes in Bend, Oregon - Carpet Ripoff

Have 420 sf of carpeting I needed done. Lowe’s quoted me $1,700 for the carpet and pad I wanted. They measured for 560sf and when I contacted them to tell them they measured wrong, they said the installer needs at least 2 extra inches on every side to install and that they have to go by what the installers say. I would have thrown over $350 in the trash can had I gone ahead with the project. Do your homework ahead of time and save yourself time, money and hassle. Don’t shop at Lowe’s.

You don't seem to understand how carpet is sold or installed. Carpet comes in 12' or 15' widths.

lets say you had an 8x10 area to carpet. that would be 80 square feet. Their quote would have been for 96 square feet (an 8' x 12') piece of carpet.

You will have an 8' x 2' scrap. Unless you rooms are exactly 12' or 15' wide and perfectly square you are going to have waste when you install carpet.

If anyone doesn’t understand something, it’s you.I have 2 rooms that are each 17’7” long. Bedroom is 9’6” wide.

Living room is 13’ 10” wide. What I asked them to do was sell me two 12’x18’ rolls and use the extra 2’6” from the bedroom to make up the difference in the living room. Does that make sense? If not, go grab a calculator.

That’s 432 sf of carpet and I would have only wasted approximately 8” x 18’.They said no. Their installer wouldn’t do it.

Why didn't you include this information in your original complaint? If you want people to take you seriously include the information that supports your position in your complaint.

The installer would still need an extra few inches... The extra is there in case you need it under the baseboards.

It's better to have extra than to have too little and have you complain about being short. You could always get a second opinion from another company of course. No one is pushing you to buy installation from Lowe's.

There are no baseboards yet. And for my situation, I told them exactly what I wanted. To me, saving $350 is more important than being 1” short along the wall because that wall was going to have furniture up against it anyway (plus the baseboard when I install it).

Lowes in Forest City, North Carolina - Carpet installation nightmare

I bought carpet for one bedroom because they said free delivery, installation and removal. I explained that I would be renting out the place next month and must have the carpet installed three weeks after I paid for it. No problem I was told. The carpet arrived at Lowes within 5 days. Service Pro, their sub didn’t have time to measure the room for a month. I talked the guy into an appointment 2 weeks after the carpet arrived. Both Lowes and the measuring guy said the installers would come within 72 hours. HA! Never called, never showed. BTW, I agree with the bate and switch review because the installer ( free) told me I need 28 linear feet of 12’ padding to cover my 12x 16 floor. I called Lowes and Service Pro 3 times a day- then started showing up at Lowes customer service every day this week. Promises promises. Lowes has an incompitant and devious sub contractor and zero control despite “ urgent requests and expedited order. I leave my summer cabin tomorrow never having been contacted by the installer despite numerous promises by all levels of Lowes Forest City staff. The rental starts in ine week. We have no local family to oversee the workers. So am I supposed to fly back to get my free installation?

Contact Lowe's installation management team (could be in the store or in a call center), explain the situation, and let them know the details of your situation and let them know that you have no other option than to hire your own subcontractor to be there for the install and to act on your behalf. Tell them that you understand that this is an installer created issue and that you expect to be reimbursed for the additional expense and ask that they charge the installer to cover the reimbursement.

If you don't get the answer you want from the first person, ask to speak to their manager.

You could also dangle this in front of the installer (the threat of losing money is a good way to move yourself to the front of their line)... It may get it installed before you leave...

Lowes - Lowe's blows

1.0
Details
We ordered a $3000 granite countertop. We looked at their samples, and paid them the money. They sent out a low quality piece of rock that would not even pass as a good grave stone. It was low quality and had huge rusty looking areas. It was very porous and did not look like it had a good polish job. We got taken advantage of. It was like buying a new washer and dryer, only to have scratch and dent pieces delivered. We also ordered carpet. Ordered carpet for 2 bedrooms. Guess what- THEY INSTALLED OUR CARPET IN SOMEONE ELSES HOUSE! Lowes wrote the wrong names on the rugs. When the installers got to the first install job, the man there did not know what his wife ordered, and she was not home. Soo, they cut it and laid it in their house. When she came home she said ''that isn't our carpet''. Too late, it was installed already. We got nothing for having to wait another 3 weeks for rug. We had moved furniture to prepare for the rug to be laid...we did not even get a gift card. I spent hours and hours on the phone trying to work out many issues. When the office in NC saw the bad counter top, the agent said, ''that has to be replaced''. ''It will take another 3 weeks to reorder and replace it.'' So, I cancelled a vacation to the beach so I would be home when the replacement happened. Then, they did not do anything!!! I am so pissed that I fantasize about going into Lowes stores and doing damage. Scratch things, dent things, mix up the nuts and bolts in the bins, spill epoxy paint, open packages, put spray paint marks on area rugs and whatever else I can think of. I am glad that I owe money on the charge card, that way I can get remediated. LOWE'S BLOWS!!!

That's what happens when you purchase a natural product rather than a man made products. No 2 pieces of granite are alike.

The grain and patters will change from one piece to the next. If you are going to buy natural stone you should purchase at a shop where you can pick the slab your to will be cut from.

Lowes in Federal Way, Washington - Horrible experience with carpet installation.

2.7
Details
In November of 2017, I ordered carpet from Lowes store in Federal Way, Wa. It was installed on January 3, 2018. There were some problems with the installation and the installers broke two lamps during the installation. The lamps were only two months old and were purchased to go along with the remodeling we were doing. I did not notice the problems until after the installers left because I was reinstalling doors that had to be shortened because of the deeper carpet. I called about an hour after the carpet installers left to report the problems with the installation and the broken items. I talked with the manager of the store. He said he could look into it. The next day a lady called and had me send over pictures the carpet and the damaged lamps. That was the last I heard from Lowes. I have tried calling the manager of the store on multiple occasions and left messages and they were not returned. Unfortunately for Lowes, this carpet install was for only one-third of my house. I have finished the remodel of the house and installed another 1400 square foot of carpet that I ordered from Home Depot instead of Lowes because of these problems.

Lowes in Schenectady, New York - Carpet installation

2.8
Details
Had carpet installed from Lowes a year and a half ago. It recently developed waves in it due to poor installation. I called Lowes and they directed me to the installation department. They stated it only had 1 yr guarantee therefore nothing can be done. Recently had another carpet installed before I realized the waves in the other. Carpet was defected from StainMaster. It developed loops and strands of carpet sticking up with black markes showing up. I have been tieing the strands together to prevent further damage. This was noted two days after put down. Pictures were sent to installer also. I was told only one loop was noted (only 1 picture was sent of this). Why is any loop noted? Over six months the problem still has not been resolved. Lowes states they are not responsible. Installation states they are not responsible, and stainmaster states they are not responsible I am out about $4000.00 STAY AWAY FROM LOWES AND THERE POOR INSTALLATION DEPARTMENT.

Carpet installation=whole house damage, Lowes says this is normal!

3.2
Details
had my carpet installed by Lowes carpet installers. We were unable to be in the house during installation and was waiting in our garage for 6 hours in 96 degree heat. Once they left we noticed black smudges all over our walls, long black marks on all trim in every room, corners into several rooms were damaged, scrapes from them moving out furniture, furniture damage and chunks of wood out of our trim. The regional supervisor for the installation dept came to our home to inspect. Although he apologized, he assured me it was normal to have marks on trim and they should clean up, He said the black all over the walls was body oils and dirt from the installers body as they braced themselves during installation. He took pics of my son's furniture and was unable to scratch the paint off. he did say the chunks of t he wood trim were not normal. We discussed the corners being scratched in several archways from them moving furniture. A few days later he said they would offer us $100. I asked to speak to someone above him and she said the $100 was a generous offer. I was able to get some of the trim scuffs off with alot of elbow grease, magic eraser and ajax cleanser. The black oily smudges did not come off with mild detergent or magic eraser and those areas have been repainted. The trim needed wood filler and sanded and paint touch. The corners needed rebuilt with drywall repair, sanded and repainted. I am outraged that they would think that all of that was normal and it was in the contract I signed. I would agree that some smudges may happen but this was entirely disregard to someones home and that would be considered NORMAL.
