Lowes use 3rd party scam artist

1.4
Details
We rid our family room and needed to get carpet. We had several companies come to give estimates for measurements of new carpet. Lowes was the worst. The 3rd party guy was to come in the morning. He had a window of 10am to 2pm. I was at work so he called mynwife several times and said he was running behind. I get off work and he still had nit been there. Henshowsnup after 7pm. He goes down stairs to measure. I offer him light he says no its better fir him with liwnligjt because henwill be using a laser. He's done and back up in less then 10 minutes. He sits down and explains its 600sf. I ask.if that correct. He shows me a digital layoit of room with no detail measurements. Lowes calls a few days later the measurement has gone up to 620 sf. Our room actually expanded since he left. Wife calls to ask why did the measurements go up and why is his measure more than 160sf more than others. Lowes guy says I'll have to talk to flooring mngr and call back. The call back next day 570sf. Who did we get 3 different measurements from one serilvice. Needless to say we are never having Lowes measure or install anything for us. What a rip off. Use caution dont believe Lowes 3rd party contractors. Im going to get in touch with local law firm to see if this is a normal practice for Lowes and its 34d party contactors to make more money and cheat customers.

Lowes in Glenville, New York - Beware of measurement

2.2
Details
Got a free measurement at Lowe’s shortly after Xmas. Was told 910 ft. Went to local carpet store and was quoted at 760 ft. My own measurement with 10% waste was 750 ft- for what it is worth. Beware, this I how Lowesmakes up for their “less expensive” prices

Their measurement for my home was very close to what I had expected. When it came time for installation the installers reviewed the measurements and determined due to the cuts required they would run short in the stairs.

Lowes ordered the additional carpet required at their expense. Seems like an honest company to me.

Lowes - Customer service and estimate breakdown

1.0
Details
I pay $35.00 to have an estimate done on my floor for laminate wood floor. While the the Installer was at my home I explain to him that I will be doing only two areas first. Therefore, I need for him to give me a breakdown of rooms. First of all it took me calling Lowes and and five days later after the visit to measure my floors that I received the estimate which was for the entire house instead of a breakdown. I made numerous trips to the store with employers including the person in charge of assigning the installer lying to me about the estimate being there and that someone would call me back. One week later today and I still have no estimate for the rooms I requested. I called back and spoke with a flooring rep who told me he just received the estimate about 5mins ago and will call me back in 30 mins. I find that strange since the installer assignor rep told me the estimate was there and that she is sending it to the flooring department. Lowes needs to better train its employees to stop giving customer the run around. Moving on over to HomeDepot. Lowes don't want my money plus I want my $35 refund to me if this is not taken care of today. Pissed customer

Big talk, wonder how well you would be able to handle, keeping a well stocked and clean department. While also managing 30-50 active clients, who are usually pretty needy.

I'm sorry that you feel the ball has been dropped.

but from time to time that happens, and they best course of action is to be polite and patient.

a small store flooring specialist sells around 53K a month.

In reference to the 35$ Lowe's makes exactly 0.00$ on the measurement.

That goes straight to the installer who came out. By what it sounds like, the installer did come out and did measure, that job you paid for has been done.

Lowes - Estimate Review from Winter Springs, Florida

Details
Took a brand new mower back to lowes because the carburetor was plugged. Altaquip came back with an estimate for rebuilding the engine for 300 dollars and wanted to charge 73 dollars for the diagnosis. I flipped went back to lowes picked up the mower brought it home cleaned out the clog in the carb and it started first pull. FIRST PULL! Lowes extended warranty and altaquip are scam artists. I talked with the altascam manager because they forgot to put all the bolts back in and had to roll up my pants because it was getting so deep. The problem is the majority of people dont know they are getting taken and just pay the bill. I am probably 1 in 1000 who are mechanicly inclined and knew what was wrong before it went to altaquip. Dont trust Altaquip or Lowes, scam artists through and through.

Lowes in Hillsboro, Oregon - Quoting A/C install requires home visit

Tried requesting a ball park quote for central A/C install but it appears to be impossible without someone coming to my place. What...? Sales person claimed it's the corporate rule but failed to provide any meaningful explanation. This is particularly annoying because in the past I've had mostly good customer experience in Lowe's. Flooring department has no problem giving estimates... perhaps A/C crew needs to re-evaluate their stand. Dear Lowe's. Newsflash! I don't need a precise number. I need a rough estimate based on which I can decide which company to invite for further assessment. So far you are the only ones who declined me a quote. Great job turning loyal customers away.

You can't ask a retail employee what a "ballpark" estimate on an HVAC install would be. Lowe's does have a qualified person who could give you an exact estimate for FREE if you are willing to wait a few days.

I am sure you were speaking to a person that does not handle any of the exterior sales, because the person that does handle the exterior sales (like A/C units) is not normally in the store. The PSE (project specialist exterior) must come by your house to give even a ballpark estimate (there is no cost anyway?).

I personally would not talk to anyone except for the PSE regarding an A/C install, because they are the most knowledgable. There are a select few installs that require a home visit before a quote is given, but it is necessary.

Be careful in ordering flooring from Lowes

Be careful of how your are being charged. We were looking to upgrade our guest bedroom and wanted to our end carpet. Having been in the industry we went in knowing there will be waste as carpet is manufactured in 12ft widths. Where they get you is on the sundries. It is reasonable to expect charges for items such as furniture moving @ $60.00 per room, padding @ .85 a sf, needed for any install and removal of carpet @ .36 a sf. All of these including the $35.00 for site measurement which is credited toward the order. Seems reasonable and standard business practice. What becomes a perception of hidden extra costs is the calculation of the extras. Fixed costs such as furniture moving and site visits are fine. However the calculations for removal and padding are based on what you PURCHASE! So the waste that you are purchasing on the carpet becomes unearned profit for Lowes! For example if you purchase 260 sf for a room but the actual room is 212 sf the 48 sf of removal (which is not there) and padding which comes in six foot widths are really hidden costs. I personally do not pay for items I do not use. This coupled with the fact that the estimator had the incorrect carpet on the order (most expensive)' always get a medium carpet and better padding, it saves lists of dollars and performance does not suffer, resulted in an increase of over 25% from the original estimate. No sale for you Lowes..... Be honest, be straight, train your sales people.....carpet is a commodity, it is all made in NW Georgia in about five plants. No big differences her except service and honesty. No sale for you Lowes!

Lowes Estimate Review

Lowes measured our patio slider at 70 inches rather than the standard 70.5. The estimate more than doubled because of the 1/2 inch. We went home and measured and watched videos to see how to measure and measured some more and we got standard 6 foot door-not custom 5.11 inches. Very disappointing!

DO Not trust LOWES to ordering door, windows,... and Installation

I went to LOWES in April14 to visit door department and if good, placed an order for that. I gave them my measurement and required photos and they gave me estimate price of 900$, it was not bad; so asked them to go a head with that. They charged me 40$ to do the measurement. Firstly, it took more than two weeks to come for measurement, then they gave me a quote of 1500$ for the same request and even I received the final quote after 5 days . My measurement and theirs was exactly the same, but the price was doubled of their primary estimate. I believe this is their trick to attract you first, then charge you 40$ and kill your time and finally forced you to continue with them. I DO NOT TRUST THEM ANY MORE AND RECOMMEND NOT TO DO ANY PROJECT WITH THEM.

You have it all wrong, originally it was on sale. After two weeks and five more days it was back to regular price, that's why the price jumped.

Happens all the time at my store. Customers are just not very bright and do not understand how sale prices work.

@SharkNasty

Still a scam if you ask me. He agreed to the quoted price. If was on sale Lowes should honor the price, not his fault it took so long to get out and measure the windows.

@SharkNasty

Mr SharkNasty... I'm glad you are such a "know-it-all"!!!

How do you know the item was on sale??? See I had the same scam attempted to be run on me. The installer added a bunch of material after he came to measure and of course labor to install that material, to a job installing some doors.

The material was never used nor installed and only after bringing the store manager and installer to my house together and having them remove some trim, was I able to show the Lowes people that the material was NOT installed.... This scam is seems to be derived by the store and made to benifit both the installer and Lowes store since there is added cost for material that is not used and cost for labor not performed.

Based on my previous experience with Lowes installers I will never have anything else installed by Lowes or their installers!!!!

Lowes - Price given was 250 more than price quoted

Update by user Dec 03, 2013

Since then Lowes called me back and said that the price had been refigured and it was going to be 450.64. we will now be using them.

Just wished they could have been upfront about all of the fees. Will continue to shop here due to them correcting the problem.

Original review posted by user Dec 03, 2013

I wont be shopping at lowes again for anything. We went to pick out carpet for our new baby's room (12X14 in size)on Nov 21. Picked out an in stock carpet that we liked and got a price quote from Chris for $420 for carpet and installation(we had already moved furniture and got the old carpet out. tack strips were still down). We were going to have to pay mileage due to living 40 miles away from the store and the $35 fee would only cover up to 20 miles so we agreed. so this would put the carpet and installation around $500. We had to pay around $75 up front for someone to come out and measure. On Nov 24th the guy came out to measure the room and said he would get the estimate in that day. Didn't hear anything Friday or Monday about the estimate. So Tuesday I called and I couldn't ever get an answer in the flooring dept. Called on Wednesday and was told by Mike that the guy didn't send the measurements in but that he would call and then call me back. Never got a returned phone call that day. Called back on Friday and Mike said that he tried to call that morning but the contractor must have been closed for thanksgiving and that he would call back Monday morning and let us know something. Monday came along and had not heard anything so called around 2 pm. Mike said they had not called but would and then call me back. He finally called around 4:30 and said they did get the estimate and that it was going to be $630+ miles, $250 more than what they previously said. When asked why the price was so much more, they said that there was a $200 small room fee which they failed to mention before we paid the $75 up front. If we had known that it was going to cost that much more we would have never paid the $75 for the estimate. My husband called the manager on duty,(I think Verdell) and she pretty much said that the price could not be changed and that we could not get our money back. LESSON LEARNED. If people ever ask us where to go for home supplies, it wont be Lowes.

Sales person made the mistake and the installer is paying for it. That's how Lowes works.

Installers clean up their mess by taking a loss when it wasn't their fault. Lowes=Bullying

Lowes - Nothing time and time again

You should shop Lowes if you want special order after special order to be screwed up each and every time. Within a one month period I ordered the following and got NOTHING - CERTAINLY NOT SERVICE!!! Deck Stain - well... that did appear about one month after I ordered and paid for it. They kept calling me and telling me it was in, I would then go to the store 1/2 hour away and was told it was not in. They had really weird lame excuses for this one. I paid almost $200.00 for this stain and they charged when I ordered not when it shipped. Requested estimate for a kitchen better than a month after they came out and took estimates, etc. The whole kitchen would have been approximately $30,000.00, which was fine. When I did FINALLY receive the estimate I had already moved on. LOL Tile Samples - six weeks later no tile samples Flooring - well this whole thing was a joke from beginning to end - purchased elsewhere Shower add-on Again bought and paid for in order to order. Called about two weeks later and was told it was backordered. That is something you tell the customer when they order or at the very least call the customer and notify them, but oh no, I would never had known if I didn't call asking where it was. I own income properties and cannot fix things when Lowe's finally get's it act together. They have sunken to all new Lowe's especially in NH and Maine, maybe elsewhere but I don't know that. I did speak to their corporate escalation team, useless and clueless. I now order EVERYTHING online with great success from everywhere excluding Lowe's and HD. Amazon is a great replacement for these "I could care less" retailers. Lowe's may have inconvenienced me but they cost themselves well over $30,000.00. Their loss my gain.
