Lowes in Brockport, New York - Fence purchase and install

3.5
Details
Joe the fence salesman was a very nice guy, However, it took over 4 weeks for install and on the day they dropped it off i noticed the gates that were suppose to be 5 feet wide were small. The installer said they were the wrong size. They showed up with 4 feet gates but i could not wait with 2 dogs. Installer Chinappis said they could make an 8 foot gate out of the 2 4s and for 250. more dollars get me a 5 foot gate so i really had no choice. Lowe's told me they would make it right and that i would receive a call from corporate which still has not happened a week later. When it was done i checked it all later that day and they had completely forgotten to use fence ties to the poles on an entire side. my dogs would have only had to push and the fencing would lift right up. If i had to do again i would not use Lowe's but a professional fence company. The installer was a landscape and fence company but their work was shoty. How in the world do you forget fence ties. Also i should not have had to pay an extra 250. I do like having the 8 foot gate on 1 side and 5 ft on the other but the point is i was forced into that decision or wait another several weeks maybe. I did not feel like the fence company owner really cared.

Lowes in Springfield, Massachusetts - Don’t use for fence installation!

Lowes - Don’t use for fence installation!
It’s mid-August, my fence installation job started in June. After 4 days of work and installing a gate that doesn’t even open (among other issues), it’s been 2 months since someone has been back to fix and finish the installation. I’ve called numerous times, asked for managers, visited my local store.. not one time has a single person, a manager, coordinator or my salesman, returned my call or gave just a courtesy call to provide a status update and act like they care. Do yourself a favor and avoid the headache of dealing with Lowe’s.

I will fix it all for $5.00 and send the invoice to Lowes

This is because the contractor they hired to do your job found out he was going to make 40% of what he would doing his own jobs and quit on them. Happens every day.

Lowes - Can't get a date or answers for an installation

I started the fence process in May with the only qualifier being that I needed to have the fence in by the end of the summer. Well it is mid August and I have no hopes that I will have a fence before winter at this point. Have called numerous times to the mythical "coordinator" and never get a call returned. Have talked with staff there and the only answer I get is the installer won't return their calls. I think I am going to end up having to cancel this and try and find someone else. My only advice is don't expect too much from Lowes and unless there is absolutely no one else pay more to have someone else install your fence.

I've always tried to find the highest quality items / suppliers and don't obsess over price. Certainly you don't want to grossly overpay, but cheaping out is no good, either.

Lowe's employs the awful method of hiring subcontractors for installations.

It's a question mark every time that way ... I'm glad you learned something here and will probably apply it to life in general ; ask around, check out other companies' works (fence companies around here usually leave a nameplate or sign on the finished product) - find a real expert with good business ethics and you'll be all set.

Lowes - Nightmare of a simple fence project in Chesapeake

1.3
Details
Our fence was supposed to be a “simple, one day project” in the offseason. We were expecting family with large dogs for an extended visit and wanted to finish our fence straight across the side yards of our small property- allowing the 2 big dogs to roam in the backyard. We experienced issues with Lowes and their subcontractor EVERY step of the way! Our project turned into a 6-month ordeal. Because they demand full payment up front, we felt stuck, thinking surely, we are past the worst... starting fresh with someone else and/or trying to get our money back would have to be worse, right? We used to trust LOWES and their products, but no longer even shop there. The system is so flawed—the LOWES coordinator is not local and is not familiar with product or installation. It usually took weeks for her to get back to us with any issue—meaning long delays. Though the subcontractor is local, they do not take any responsibility for the materials or ensuring proper delivery of supplies. They show up on installation day and cancel if anything is not there. (They refused to come and check in advance of install day). You are then at the whim of their packed schedule as to when they will return. Our “one day project” turned into a 6-month nightmarish process, and we are still waiting for the final follow-up from LOWES—now over a month after the completion. Still waiting for a call from the coordinator... Here’s just a few highlights of the problems we experienced: The subcontractor (FYI LOWES salesman stated they were good since they’d worked with them for 14 years…) cut our cable, phone and internet lines off at the house in preping for the fence. This meant we were without service for several weeks. Of course, we as the homeowners had to schedule and coordinate all of it. That wasn't the end of installation problems! On another visit, the water line was cut while digging a post hole, and we were without water until a plumber could come rectify the problem. The fence is now in, but obviously, we wouldn’t recommend the subcontractor: MId-Atlantic Millwork. In talking with the workers, for one it was his FIRST day, another had been working for the company a week... It wasn't just installation issues...the coordinating of materials by LOWES was also horrible. Part of our initial order was delivered to the wrong address. I even called while the delivery truck was in our driveway to alert there were missing parts… but LOWES assured me the computer said everything was okay. The contractor arrived two days later, and couldn’t work with only half the materials…Opps. The next time the contractor arrived it was discovered the wrong “posts” were ordered, multiple phone calls, delays for new parts and waiting for the contractor's schedule to be open... Next time the contractor arrived, it was determined the wrong “slats” were ordered, so no fence; more calls, long wait for contractor’s schedule… The final straw, 4 orders later... the slats and posts were fine, but not enough—we were short one section! The subcontractor “jimmied” the final section with the original "wrong" parts so the fence would be whole and withstand wind, etc. but it was nearly two months before they came back out to finish the section properly. As mentioned, the contractor felt no obligation to check out the parts in advance, as for the local Lowes manager, he said they were unable to check out materials delivered to a home...something about local store employees only employed to work inside the local store... LOWES coordination to pick up the wrong materials was a joke. When the truck did arrive to pick up the materials the driver told us, “Oh, there’s no pallet, so I can’t pick up. YOU need to call the office to have them send out someone to package it up properly… when that’s done, call them again to have a truck come back.” Since fence parts were sitting in our driveway throughout this long process, we actually got a letter from our HOA threatening to fine us… Oh, our original desire for the fence… the dogs... had come and gone by the time it was completed… We contrast our LOWES experience with that of working with a local company (American General Contractors) to have two stone patios put in. AGC coordinated the materials and delivery-adjusting material quantities seamlessly as needed, their work was professional and beautiful, completed ON TIME as promised- start to finish in less than a week! We couldn’t be happier with the outcome… and they ensured we were satisfied BEFORE taking the final payment. We were so sorry they didn’t do fences! LOWES has been nothing but frustration and problems, and everyone putting the blame on someone else. Since LOWES requires funds in full before starting, we are not getting return calls on our request for compensation/discount for the laundry list of problems we encountered. After all we endured, it doesn't seem that paying in full is appropriate.

Lowes in Avon, Indiana - Lowe's poor customer service and Fence Installation

1.0
Details
Please do not use Lowe's for any home improvements (including Fence installation) If you are contacted by Ward Walker to set up an estimate...run and go with a locally owned company. I have spent over 2 months waiting for Lowe's to correct an incomplete and poorly installed fence. We moved into a brand new Westport home in Avon and although I had other options, I chose Lowe's to install out fence (HUGE MISTAKE). They hired independent contractors to do the work and although I knew this, was promised by Ward Walker that it would be installed without issue and he would make sure to it. I will never give Lowe's another dime of my money. I have escalated this to the corporate level with no resolve or repair. Lowe's is NOT a good company and please save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere.

Why wouldn't you go to a locally owned company anyway? Who do you think does the installations for Lowes? They Hire the local companies with the lowest bids to do their work and then add a nice markup and charge you more than you could have had the job done by hiring the local contractors on your own.

@Anonymous

For the warranty that I was promised. Clearly not worth it at all; however, it doesn't matter where I went in the first place, it should have been done correctly.

Lowes - Lowe’s doesn’t hire reliable contractors

Lowes - Lowe’s doesn’t hire reliable contractors
The staff at the store is great but I would never use one of their contractor to install anything on our property ever again. I recently purchased a fence and the contractor was suppose to come on a Tuesday. They cancelled because their truck broke down. They promised to come on Friday. We waited all morning and no one showed. We didn’t receive a phone call or anything. We contacted the store and they called the contractor. They stated they were held up at another job and would be there soon. They never came. Monday rolls around and two of the workers show up without tools. They stated a third guy should be here with the tools. They call the guy who stated he cannot arrive for two hours. They asked us if we have tools. My brother told them no. The drive to Lowe’s to buy the tools. They finally start setting up the fence by the afternoon. 4:00 rolls around and they state they have to leave but will be back in the morning. Fence is not even half completed and we aren’t fencing in a large area. Morning has come and gone so far no one has arrived. No phone calls and fence still not done. I am a military veteran and cannot sit home all day everyday for weeks until they decided to show up. If I didn’t have an injury I would install it myself. NOT HAPPY!

Sloppy, no doubt about it. Subcontractors are a shot in the dark, especially when chosen by someone other than yourself. That job is not exactly brain surgery on its toughest day.Although I agree with your assessment of the situation, I'm not sure how you could consider military service as a shield against disorganization and incompetence unless you're permitted to use the enemy's weakness against him ; and I don't see how to execute that scenario here.

Lowes in Charter Township Of Clinton, Michigan - Fence nightmare

I contacted the Clinton Township Michigan Lowes store online to schedule an estimate for a vinyl fence in mid April. On May 02,2018 William Weber project specialist came to our home to give us an estimate. My son had drawn up the fence specifications and gave this to Mr. Weber. We purchased $4200.00 vinyl fence. Mr. Weber said the fence would be installed by Kelly Green (the best installer Lowes has). The material ordered was not correct. When I asked Mr. Weber about this and if he gave my son's drawing to Kelly Green. His text stated he gave it to him and everything needed for the job would be there. The nightmare began on June 18, 2018 the day the fence was to be installed. I had 3 texts from Kelly Green confirming 06/18/18. However Kelly Green did not show up. I sent a text to Mr. Weber and to inform him of the no show. I then received a call from Kelly Green one hour later and was told he had 2 customers with the same name as mine and the other person and I had the same phone number and that was the job he was at. I told him that made no sense and I was very angry He said he would be out the next day. Later that day (06/18/18) I got a call from Kelly Greens company "The Green Machine" and Michelle tried to set-up the fence install for mid August I told her I just spoke with Kelly and he was coming out tomorrow. She had no knowledge of this. I asked her if she had another customer with my name and phone number she reply"no" He showed up the next day and I asked him if he had the right material he had no idea that the wrong things were ordered. He said that Mr. Weber did the ordering, when I told him Mr. Weber said he did the ordering he seemed surprised. I than asked him if he saw the drawing my son gave to Mr. Weber he said he never say the drawing. He proceeded to dig the holes, but they were not in a straight line so several had to be dug again or modified. I had to supervise most of the work they put posts in with cement but no water until I caught them then they would put the water in. There was 99 feet of fence and 1 gate to be installed. He took 5 days to install the fence. I spoke with the management at the store on three different occasions but they were next to useless. I was directed to call Joshua Frazee at CPO. He explained he was new at this job and would speak with Mr. Weber and Mr. Green. I don't know if he spoke with either of them because his follow through was poor to say the least. He said he would call me back on several occasions but only called back once. Mr. William Weber has no integrity, is dishonest and lacks any morals. Kelly Green is a young kid who barely knows how to put up a fence and just says what he thinks you want to hear. They are not very good at their job and should go back to what it said on the back of his shirt "Green Machine, power washing decks and snow removal" because they are way out of their league trying to put up fences. Dealing with Lowes and their project specialist, subcontractors and CPO has been an experience I won't soon forget. I hope I never have to deal with them again.

Just hate these cell phone posts. Not enough detail.

What were they to install? Did you rent the dumpster or did the contractor? What is the dumpster in the way of having delivered?

Usually the contractor arranges the dumpster and deals with companies that are familiar with where they want it, or do you just have a single car driveway and there was no other place to put it? If you are going to complain, provide some detail.
