Just because the computer says it's there doesn't mean it really is. Having worked at a Lowes competitor I can tell you it isn't uncommon.

When a truck was received from our distribution center the bill of lading number was entered in the computer. Everything on the bill of lading was added to the inventory whether it was actually on the truck or not when the truck hit the dock. Depending on how much freight was coming in it could take a day or 2 for the product to hit the shelf. From time to time the wrong product was shipped or the product ended up on a truck going to another store.

No way to know till someone corrects the counts due to an empty shelf or someone looking for more than was on the shelf. Good luck finding a store that is 100% accurate on their floor counts vs the computer.
